‘Parasite’ shifts film paradigm through multiple Oscars awards

It is the first non-English film to win the Best Picture award, rivaling other movies in Hollywood.

A real breakthrough in the film industry, the Korean film Parasite has changed the audiences’ view of international films.

The film brought home multiple awards in the recent Oscars including Best Foreign Language Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture.

“It still feels very surreal. I feel like something will hit me and I will wake up from this dream,” producer and director Bong Joon Ho said through a translator.

Parasite’s victory provided a new perspective for the Asian actors and producers by paving the way for a new platform for them to be recognized in the international screens.

It is the first non-English film to win the Best Picture award in the Academy Awards, rivaling other big movies in Hollywood.
